Deli Associate Job Description


Our Deli Associate is responsible for making sandwiches on a to-order basis, slicing and portioning charcuterie items to customer specifications, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining the stock levels for packaged goods (such as cheese, and olives) and prepackaged items. The Deli Associate works under the General Manager and ensures the cleanliness and food-ready atmosphere befitting the finest deli in town.


Essential Functions:

  • Quickly build sandwiches to customer specifications

  • Slice meats and cheeses to customer specifications, using knives and deli slicers

  • Receive orders from customers in a friendly and efficient manner

  • Package and stock product

  • Maintain par levels for sandwich meats and cheeses and keep the block stocked

  • Cook product in oven

  • Put away orders and rotate stock

  • Sample products

  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of deli

  • Other related duties as assigned.



  • Minimum 1 year deli or related food prep/service experience

  • Must be 18 years old or older.

  • Sufficient mathematical proficiency and analytical business skills to perform required functions in areas such as par level building and evaluation, price alterations pertaining to special orders, and recipe multiplication

  • Creativity in selling and food presentation

  • Product knowledge

  • Knife and slicer safety training (provided by The Harbor General Store upon hire)

  • Willingness to make a commitment to stability in the position

  • Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, & holidays.

  • Ability to work quickly, independently, and can handle multiple tasks at one time.

  • Exceptional customer service skills and training, including professional appearance and presentation of self.

  • Is able to effectively manage their emotions in the workplace

  • Consistent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting. Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally

  • Constant arm, hand, and wrist motion
